István Bárány

István Bárány [ iʃtva ː n ba ː ra ː ɲ ] ( born December 20, 1907 in Eger, † February 21, 1995 in Budapest) was a Hungarian swimmer.

At the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 he won the silver medal in the 100 m freestyle. Four years later, at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he won the bronze medal with the Hungarian 4 × 200 m relay. At the European Championships in Paris in 1931 he took the title over 100 m and 400 m freestyle. In 1926, he had already become the first European champion in the 100 m freestyle.

In 1978 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
