Alain Bernard
Alain Bernard ( born May 1, 1983 in Aubagne ) is a French swimmer. He is an officer of the French National Order of Merit.
Career
At the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven (the Netherlands ), he presented 22 March 2008 with 47.50 seconds set a new world record in the 100 -meter freestyle on, after he had undercut the day before with only a tenth of a second more the old world record. A day later, he improved in 21.50 seconds and the 50m freestyle world record. This record, however, was already five days later undercut by the Australian Eamon Sullivan. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 was Bernard Olympic champion in the 100 m freestyle, won the silver medal in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and bronze in the 50m freestyle.
In 2008 he was voted European Swimmer of the Year as well as the sports newspaper L' Équipe France's Sportsman of the Year ( " champion of champions" ).
For the World Cup 2011 he was in March 2011, only in the disciplines 50m freestyle and 4 x 100 m freestyle relay and failed to qualify in fourth in 100m freestyle.
