Ivaylovgrad

Ivaylovgrad, also Ivaylovgrad ( Ивайловград Bulgarian, Turkish Ortaköy ) is a city and the administrative center of a municipality of the same name in southern Bulgaria near the Greek border. The city's name is derived from the words Bulgarian Ivaylo ( Tsar Ivailo ) and the degree for city; So it means Iwajlos city.

Geography

The city Ivaylovgrad lies in the eastern foothills of the Rhodope Mountains at the transition to the Thracian plain. Near the city the rivers Arda and Erythropotamos flow. On the Arda River not far from Ivaylovgrad is the Iwajlowgrader dam and the hydroelectric plant Ivaylovgrad.

The municipality Ivaylovgrad bordered to the north by the municipalities Ljubimez and Madscharowo, on the west by the municipality Krumovgrad in the Oblast Kardzhali and to the east and south by the Greek community Orfeas.
