Iwate District, Iwate

Iwate (Japanese岩手 郡, -gun ) is a county in the Japanese prefecture of Iwate.

On 1 January 2008, the district covered an area of 1586.87 km ²; the estimated population was 95,522, the population density is therefore about 60 inhabitants / km ².

The district covers the northern part of the urban area of Morioka. With the exception of the village of Takizawa a decrease in population is recorded.

For district includes three municipalities ( Machi / Chō ) and a village / a rural community ( Mura): Shizukuishi (雫 石 町, chō ), Kuzumaki (葛 巻 町, machi ), Iwate (岩手 町, machi ), Takizawa (滝 沢 村, -mura ).

History

Subdivision on March 29, 1896

On March 29, 1896, the counties and Kitaiwate Minamiiwate, North and Südiwate, merged and together form the district of Iwate, which is now a town and 24 rural towns / villages are subordinate. The city of Morioka, which is also located in this area, had become independent of Minamiiwate on April 1, 1889. The subordinate administrative units were:
