J. Emile Verret

J. Emile Verret (* September 13, 1885 in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, † February 9, 1965 ) was an American politician. Between 1944 and 1948 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Louisiana.

Career

Emile Verret attended the public schools of his home. In 1905 he graduated from the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute, today's University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He also studied at the Soule Business College in New Orleans. Then he ran a department store in New Iberia. Since 1928 he has also worked in the insurance industry. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. Between 1914 and 1943 he served as president of the school board in Iberia Parish.

1944 Verret on the side of Jimmie Davis was elected Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana. This post he held 1944-1948. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In the primaries, he had the favorite Earl Long beaten surprising. In 1948 he was not re-elected. Verret was a member of several organizations and associations. He died on 9 February 1965.
