Jacob Markström

Jacob Markström ( born January 31, 1990 in Gävle) is a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender who is Maärz since 2014 the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Jacob Markström began his career in 2005 at IK Sätra before he moved to the U18 Junior Brynäs IF 2006. In his first season he was a regular goalkeeper in Brynäs and finished with the team after the regular season in the northern group of U18 Allsvenskan second place. In the playoffs, but they were knocked out in the first round.

For the season 2007/ 08 Markström moved to the U20 Junior Brynäs in the class SuperElit. There, too, he was allowed to complete the majority of the games. In the 27 games lasting main round of the North Group, he led all goalies with a Gegentorschnitt of 1.8 and a catch rate of 93.8 percent and won 13 of his 15 missions. Shortly after the end of the Kvalserien Markström joined with the Swedish junior national team at the U18 World Cup, where they finished fourth. In North America, people became aware of him and he was in the ranking of European Goalkeeper talent for the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 at the peak position. The Florida Panthers finally chose him in the second round of at position 31.

In the 2008 /09 season Jacob Markström was goalkeeper of the team of professionals Brynäs IF and was already able to establish early in the season among the best goalkeepers in the Elitserien. In the following season he was able to increase again and received the Honkens Trofé as the best goalkeeper in the Elitserien. In addition, he was elected Rookie of the Year in the league. After nearly four years in the Panthers franchise transferred him this along with Shawn Matthias on March 4, 2014 a day before the trade deadline to the Vancouver Canucks. In return, joined the Roberto Luongo to Florida.
