James Patton Preston

James Patton Preston ( born June 21, 1774 Smithfield, Montgomery County, Virginia; † May 4, 1843 ) was an American politician and from 1816 to 1819 Governor of Virginia.

Early years and political rise

James Preston visited 1790-1795, the College of William & Mary. He was a member of the founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. For this party, he spent four years as a member of the Senate of Virginia and then for two years a deputy in the House of Representatives of the State.
