Ján Plachetka

Ján Plachetka ( born February 18, 1945 in Trenčín ) is a Slovak chess master.

In 1978 he was awarded the grandmaster title. Plachetka has three medals from the championship of Czechoslovakia: Silver ( 1992) and bronze (1973, 1988). He won gold at the 1993 Championship of Slovakia Topoľčiany. Plachetka played five times ( in 2002 and 2004) for the national team of Czechoslovakia and twice for Slovakia at the Chess Olympiad, where he scored 34.5 points from 55 games. Be greatest success in chess Olympiads was a silver medal in 1982 in Lucerne. Plachetka played four times for Czechoslovakia and once for Slovakia at the European Team Championships.

Plachetka conquered or occupied top positions in many tournaments: I-II. Place in Stary Smokovec (1972 ), first place in Rimavská Sobota (1975 ), I-II. Place in Polanica -Zdrój (1975 ), I-III. Place in Maribor ( 1977), first place in Trnava (1979 ), first place in Sofia ( 1979), I-II. Place in Stary Smokovec (1979 ), I-III. Place in Novi Sad ( 1983), I-II. Place in Paris ( 1989), I-II. Place in Olomouc ( 2002), first place in Stare Mesto (2004), I-II. Place in Lippstadt (2005) and I-III. Place in Umag (2006).

Since 2009, he has the title FIDE Senior Trainer.
