Jari Kurri

Jari Pekka Kurri ( born May 18, 1960 in Helsinki ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player. During his racing career he played for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, Anaheim Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League and Jokerit Helsinki SM- liiga in on the position of the right winger.

Career

He played ten years for the Edmonton Oilers, then moved to the Los Angeles Kings, where he played for three full and two half seasons, then played half a season for the New York Rangers and one season for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and finally for the Colorado Avalanche, where he ended his career in 1998. Prior to his time in the NHL and for half a season 1994/95 he played for his hometown club Jokerit Helsinki SM- liiga in, as well as a half season with the HC Devils Milano in Italy.

He won with the Oilers, of which he had been committed in the NHL Entry Draft 1980 Round 4 69th, a total of five times the Stanley Cup (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990). He was the first Finn to win the Cup. No other player from Europe managed this more often. His best season was 1984/85, in which he scored 135 points scorer (71 goals, 64 assists). This year, he also shot in 18 playoff games 19 goals, which he set an NHL record. In the Conference Finals, he scored three hat-tricks while ( three goals in one game), which is an NHL record. A year later he was top scorer in the league with 68 goals. He arrived in the NHL in total points scorer in 1398, as much as any other European players. Overall, he therefore occupies the 20th place, at the gates of 18th Place. Meanwhile, he was overtaken by Jaromir Jagr at the gates, the assists as well as the points and by his Finnish countryman Teemu Selanne, in goals and points. After Wayne Gretzky, he is the second most successful scorer of the Edmonton Oilers of all time.

Kurri was known primarily as a partner of Wayne Gretzky, the 60 % of their goals hung him, even though they do not always play in a team.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.
