Jarrod Saltalamacchia ( born May 2, 1985 in West Palm Beach, Florida) is an American Major League Baseball player. He currently plays for the Boston Red Sox as a catcher.
Saltalamacchia has the longest name in the history of Major League.
Career
Saltalamacchia was elected Draft by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the MLB 2003. He then played several years in the minor league teams of the Braves.
Atlanta Braves
After convincing performances in the minor league Saltalamacchia was, due to injuries from Brian McCann and Brayan Pena on May 2, 2007, his debut for the Braves. On May 27, 2007 Saltalamacchia hit his first home run in Major League against the Philadelphia Phillies. After changing rumors Saltalamacchia was transferred on July 31, 2007 Elvis Andruz, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Beau Jones to the Texas Rangers in exchange Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay came to the Braves.
Texas Rangers
On 1 August 2007 he graduated from the Cleveland Indians in his first game of the Rangers jersey. After a successful season with 11 home runs and struck a batting average of .266, he went into the 2008 season. On August 22, Saltalamacchia hit two home runs against the Baltimore Orioles and thus contributed greatly to the final score of 29:3. In the 2008 season he lost his place as the starting catcher Gerald Laird on and was sent to the minor league team of the Rangers, but returned relatively quickly back again. After the second game of the MLB season 2010 he came to the Disabled List. On April 26, Saltalamacchia returned from the Disabled List, and then signed a contract with the Oklahoma City RedHawks, a minor league team of the Rangers.
Boston Red Sox
Shortly before the end of transfer, on July 31 moved Saltalamacchia in exchange of Chris McGuinness, Ramon Mendez (Michael Thomas ) and a sum of money to the Boston Red Sox. For the 2010 season, Saltalamacchia played for the AAA minor league team the Red Sox, the Pawtucket Red Sox. Since the beginning of the 2011 season he is starting catcher of the Boston Red Sox.
