Jasper County (Iowa)
The Jasper County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) Newton is named after Sergeant John Newton, a hero in the American Revolutionary War.
Geography
The County is located just southeast of the geographic center of Iowa and has an area of 1898 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Jasper County was formed on January 13, 1846 from former parts of Mahaska County. It was named after Sergeant William Jasper (c. 1750-1779 ), who fell in the Revolutionary War.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Jasper County 36 842 people in 15,121 households. The population density was 19.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 15,121 households lived statistically 2.23 per person.
The racial the population was composed of 96.7 percent white, 1.3 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.4 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.5 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
22.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 60.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.5 percent were 65 years or older. 49.1 percent of the population was female.
