Joachim Kunz

Joachim Kunz (1980 )

Joachim Kunz ( born February 9, 1959 in Stollberg ) is a former German weightlifter. He was the only Olympic gold medalist in weightlifting in the GDR (1988).

Career

Kunz, who grew up in the Saxon Lugau, began in Lichtenstein with the gymnastics, which he continued at the Children's and Youth Sports School in Karl- Marx-Stadt. There he joined the weight lifting, after recognized his favorable conditions for it. Kunz made ​​great strides and launched in 1978 for the first time successfully at a World Youth Championship. After completing his schooling continued Kunz continued his athletic career at SC Karl- Marx-Stadt and was in the eighties to the world elite in the lightweight and middleweight. The Olympic gold medal in Seoul in 1988 crowned the career of skilled toolmaker. He was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold for this victory.

Towards the end of the 1980s, Kunz took on a sports studies at the DHfK in Leipzig, which he broke off in the time of the political changes in 1990. After a career transition Kunz founded in 1998 Oederan the Mico GmbH. His company produces soup dishes and is the owner of Food Stamps suppina and tempo lenses.

Success in GDR Championships

Joachim Kunz was East German champion in the lightweight 1979, 1980 and 1981 and in the middleweight division in 1983, 1984, 1987 and 1989. Moreover, he won in 1990 with the Bavarian TSV rain the title of German Champion team.
