Joe Niekro
Joe Niekro ( born November 7, 1944 in Martins Ferry ( Ohio), † October 27, 2006 in Tampa ( Florida)) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball.
Joe Niekro with 221 victories in 22 professional years one of the most successful pitcher in the history of Major League who worked mainly with the knuckleball. In 1979 he was a member of the National League All- Star team. His older brother Phil Niekro was also an excellent knuckleballer.
Niekro made in 1987 for one of the unintentionally funniest faux pas in MLB history when a suspicious referee asked him to empty his pockets. Niekro threw " indignant " hands up, as unfortunately it fell out a nail file and a piece of sandpaper, with whom he illegally wanted anschmirgeln baseball. It was this blocked for 10 games and parodied his misfortune later in the show Late Night With David Letterman.
