Johan Olsson (skier)

Arne Johan Olsson ( born March 19, 1980 in Skultuna ) is a Swedish cross-country skier.

Career

1998-2007

Johan Olsson starts for the ski club Åsarna IK. His first steps on the international stage he made at the Junior World Championships 1998 in Pontresina. Two years later, he was fifth on 10 km in Štrbské Pleso. Until his World Cup debut in 2001 in Cogne he ran into unterklassigen FIS and Continental Cup competitions. During his cross-country skiing World Cup debut, he took over ten kilometers down the 54th rank. Until December 2003 Olsson was used sporadically in the World Cup, but usually started in unterklassigen races where he could often place well. He celebrated as the winner of the bronze medal in the 15 km race at the national championships in 2003 a success. In December, he could become the 16th over 15 km in Davos for the first time win the World Cup points and launched from now on also mostly in the World Cup. With the Swedish season he was third on the following day.

In January 2005, Olsson came in tenth in Nove Mesto ( 15 km ) for the first time among the top ten in a World Cup race. Olsson began in 2005 in Oberstdorf for the first time at a Nordic World Ski Championships. The debutant was used in four races, the best results were seventh place in the relay and 19th place over 50 kilometers. At the beginning of the 2007/ 08 Olsson once again achieved a top-10 world cup placement in Beitostølen with the 10th Place. In two FIS races in Åsarna he also started successfully before in January and February 2008 in the World Cup, he recorded a slight drop in performance. Even with the season in Falun, he remained in eighth place significantly behind expectations. In individual World Cup in Oslo he succeeded in Oslo for the first time a place among the top ten.

In the following season 2008/ 09 he started too late after he initially went to the start at FIS races. In Gällivare he reached in a single World Cup race over 15 km of right away again a top 10 placement. With the squadron he stood for a long time back on the podium and finished in second place. This placement repeated the Season in La Clusaz in December before it Olsson in Otepaeae succeeded in January in single to reach the second place. In the Swedish Nordic Ski Championships 2009 in Sundsvall, he finished second in the individual 15 km and in the pursuit. In the next World Cup race in Valdidentro he again reached the podium and finished third.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, he was after the eighth place in the Classic Single, 16th place in the pursuit of the season in sixth place. After the World Cup went Olsson's power curve down again. It was not until the start of the World Cup season 2009/10 he was back to its former strength, reaching eighth place in Beitostølen over 15 km. At the Swedish Championships 2010 in Piteå, he won bronze in singles. After he reached the seventh place in Canmore in February, he was finally nominated for the Olympic Games.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver Olsson won with Daniel Richardsson, Marcus Hellner and Anders Sodergren the gold medal in the relay race 4 x 10 km. He also reached the bronze medal in the mass start race over 50 miles behind Petter Northug and Axel Teichmann and Skiathlon over 30 km behind his compatriot Marcus Hellner and Tobias Angerer. In individual over 15 km, it reached number 11

In the first World Cup race after the Games he finished fifth over 50km in Oslo. In Gällivare he could run at the start of the 2010/11 season with the squadron again at the top of the podium. At the Swedish Championships 2011 in Sundsvall, he again won two silver medals. After a mediocre 23rd place at the World Cup in Drammen, he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo. There he won jointly with Marcus Hellner, Daniel Richardsson and Anders Sodergren behind the Norwegian team the silver medal in the relay. In the individual events he missed the Top 10 rankings significantly.

In Bruksvallarna 2011 he won bronze in the 50 km individual at the Swedish Championships in April. In his first World Cup race of the season 2011/12 in Sjusjøen he could win a single race again. Even with the season he was successful with the third place. By winning the Scandinavian Cup in Åsarna in January 2012, it was his last podium. Among the short later held the Swedish Championships in Östersund, he started in all cross-country disciplines and won in Skiathlon over 30 km and 15 km Individual competition the silver medal.

Three weeks later, he won over the same distance at the World Cup in Davos.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme, he won silver in the individual and team competition. Shortly thereafter, he won over 50 km classic individual gold medal.

Private

Olsson married the cross-country skier Anna Dahlberg, the couple lives in Östersund.
