Johan van der Velde
Johan van der Velde ( born December 12, 1956 in Rijsbergen ) was a 1978-1990 active Dutch cyclist.
Career
Van der Velde comes from a family keen on cycling. He started his career with the TI- Raleigh team. In 1980, he was the best young rider in the Tour de France. In June 1981, he received one month ban for doping. 1985, 1987 and 1988 won the points classification in the Giro d' Italia. In 1986 he was at the Tour de France two days in the yellow jersey. After his retirement from cycling van der Velde amphetamine- addicted and became the burglar to fund his addiction. He landed a short time in prison.
Johan van der Velde is the father of the successful as a cyclist Ricardo van der Velde and Alain van der Velde. His brother Theo van der Velde was also cyclists.
