Johann Friedrich Fasch

Johann Friedrich Fasch ( born April 15, 1688 in Buttelstedt at Weimar; † December 5, 1758 in Zerbst ) was a German composer.

Life

Fasch was the first child of the School Director Georg Friedrich Fasch. The mother was Sophie Wegerig from Leißling at Weissenfels. After the death of his father in 1700 Fasch came to his mother's brother, the pastor Gottfried Wegerig in Göthewitz. He probably learned as well as the opera composer Reinhard Keiser know. When a boy was Fasch singer in Weissenfels and in Leipzig Thomas - Thomas cantor Johann Kuhnau Alumnat below. After he had written in the years 1711 and 1712 operas for the Naumburg Opera House and the Zeitz yard, he went to Darmstadt in 1713 to study with Christoph Graupner and Gottfried Grünewald composition. From 1714 to 1719 he held the post of chamber writer in Gera, from 1719 to 1721 he was organist in Greiz. After that he went as Kapellmeister of the Counts Morzin to Prague, and finally in 1722 Kapellmeister in Zerbst. Here his son Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch was born on November 18, 1736. Musical suggestions won Fasch as Pisendel in Leipzig and Italian music circles. Leading the way his music was mainly due to the preferred wind instruments and the motivic- thematic work. He left numerous works, including 86 orchestral suites, 19 symphonies, 20 orchestral concerts, as well as a lute, 7 oboe, bassoon 3 and 17 violin concertos.

Johann Friedrich Fasch is considered an important German composer of instrumental music of Bach's time and was very well appreciated by Johann Sebastian Bach. At the age of 70 years, he died on December 5, 1758 in Zerbst.
