Johann Theodor Katerkamp

Johann Theodor Katerkamp ( born January 17, 1764 in Ochtrup, † June 9, 1834 in Münster ) was a German Catholic theologian and church historian.

Life

Johann Theodor Katerkamp, son of the farmer Johann Heinrich Eberhard and his wife Mary, received his education in Progymnasium of the Franciscan Order in Rheine. From 1781 he attended high school Paulinum in Münster and studied in the years 1783-1787 at the University of Münster philosophy and theology. After he was ordained in 1787 as a priest, he worked until 1796 as a private tutor. With his two pupils, Klemens August Droste and Hans- Otto Droste, Katerkamp undertook a two-year educational journey through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Sicily. From 1797 he worked as a private tutor of Amalie of Gallitzin; this activity ended. Three years later, with the death of the Princess in 1806, 1809, Johann Katerkamp became a lecturer in church history at the University of Münster. In 1816 he was appointed associate professor of church history and moral theology, in 1819 a full professor of church history and canon law. The University of Landshut awarded him in 1820 the honorary Doctor of Divinity. The next year Katerkamp examiner synodalis was 1823 canon and appointed in 1831 Domdechanten in Münster. Three years later, on June 9, 1834, Johann Theodor Katerkamp died there.
