Johannes Manthey

Johannes " Hans " Manthey ( born March 8, 1914 in Duisburg) was football player in West and East Germany, as well as a football coach in the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR.

Football career

Player

Manthey celebrated his greatest successes as a player and as a coach in Dessau. His first game in the men's field, he played as a 17 -year-old when Meidericher SV in the district Class Lower Rhine. For the season 1932/33 he spent three seasons with the county division side SV black and white western end Hamborn. In1936 the now 22 -year-old Manthey the Lower Rhine and joined the SV Dessau 05 to, who played in the Gauliga center, one of the highest at this time 16 leagues. With the Dessauers he was six times Gaumeister under the training guidance of former national player Karl Hoger and took just as often participate in the finals of the German Cup. Coach

After the end of World War II, the SV Dessau 05 was dissolved in 1945 and replaced by the SG Dessau North, which also Manthey played until the summer of 1947. He then moved each for half a year between Werder Bremen and North Dessau. Karl Hoger, his former coach in Dessau had Manthey brought to Bremen, where the midfielder completed twelve games in the Football Oberliga Nord. At the beginning of the season 1951/52, undertook the second division BSG Stahl Magdeburg, shortly afterwards renamed BSG Motor Mitte, Manthey as a coach. There he remained until the end of the season in 1954/55, but managed the expected rise not in the league. He was then replaced for 17 months from Heinz Joerk, but returned on September 30, 1956 after there was the BSG Motor Mitte in relegation danger back there.
