John Gould Moyer

John Gould Moyer ( born July 12, 1893 in Chicago, Illinois, † January 21, 1976 in Honolulu, Hawaii) was an American naval officer. Between 1942 and 1944 he was military governor of American Samoa.

Career

John Moyer was born in Chicago and grew up in Delphi ( Indiana). Between 1910 and 1914 he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland). In the following years he served as an officer in the United States Navy. At the end of his military career on 30 June 1949, he had brought it to the Rear Admiral.

Between 5 June 1942 and 8 February 1944, he was the successor of Laurence Wild Governor of American Samoa. Because of the climatic conditions he proposed to reduce the service time of the American troops stationed there from 18 to twelve months. His time as governor was marked by the events of the Second World War. He commanded at that time also stationed on his island soldiers of the Marine Corps. About the life of John Moyer after his retirement from military service in 1949 nothing has survived. He died on January 21, 1976 in Honolulu.
