John I, Count of Blois

John I of Châtillon (French Jean I de Châtillon, † June 28, 1279? ) Was Count of Blois, Chartres and Dunois, lord of Avesnes and Guise.

He was the eldest son of Hugh I of Châtillon, Count of Saint-Pol, and Mary of Avesnes, Countess of Blois.

When his mother's death in 1241 he inherited the counties of Blois and Dunois, he may reigned around 1246 until the death of his father. When the father's death the county of Saint-Pol went to John's brother Guido II, the rule of Châtillon to his brother Walter IV

Moreover Upon the death of his grandfather, Walter II of Avesnes 1245 he inherited his dominions Avesnes and Guise.

From his mother's second cousin, Matilda of Amboise, he inherited after the death of her husband John II of Soissons to 1270, the county Chartes.

Marriage and issue

He married Alix of Brittany (* June 6, 1243, † August 2, 1288 ), a daughter of Duke John I of Dreux. The marriage contract was signed on December 11, 1254.

John and Alix had only one daughter, Johanna († 1292 ), who inherited the property of her father, Peter of France married, but had no surviving offspring. The county of Chartres sold in 1286 to the French king; Blois and Dunois went after her death to Guido's son Hugo II VI. of Châtillon.
