John Konrads

John Conrad ( Latvian Jānis Conrad, born May 21, 1942 in Riga, Latvia ) is a Latvian Australian swimmer origin.

1944 emigrated Conrad's family as war refugees, first to Germany in 1949 to Australia. Conrad learned to swim at the age of seven years.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he won on February 23, 1960, the gold medal in the 1500 m freestyle with a time of 17:19,6 minutes.

He ended his career as a competitive swimmer after the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964. After his playing days, he worked as a swimming teacher and founded a successful company. He also produced several instructional videos.

In 1971 he was inducted along with his sister Ilsa Conrad in the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
