The Jomsom Airport ( IATA: JMO, ICAO: VNJS ) is an airport in Jomsom, Nepal. The place is difficult to achieve on a gravel road.

Location

Due to its location and the relatively short runway of the airport is one of the most dangerous in the world. The airport is surrounded by more than 8000 m high mountains and finds itself at an altitude of about 2700 m. The route between Pokhara and Jomsom leads between Annapurna ( 8,091 m) and Dhaulagiri ( 8,167 m) through a deep gorge.

Flight accidents

On May 14, 2012 15 people died in a crash of a twin-engine aircraft Dornier Do 228 of the airline Agni Air, the machine was started with 21 people at the airport for a flight to Jomsom Pokhara and returned to the airport due to technical problems. During the approach, the aircraft crashed into one of the surrounding mountains.
