Jorge Garbajosa

Jorge Joaquín Garbajosa Chaparro [' xoɾxe gaɾβa'xosa ] ( born December 19, 1977 in Torrejón de Henares, Madrid ) is a former Spanish professional basketball player. He is 2.06 m tall and played on the position of the small or power forwards.

Career

Clubs

Garbajosa began his career with Juventud Alcalá, an association of Alcalá de Henares. At the age of 16, he moved to the youth department of Taugrés. In the Basque club tradition he celebrated, 9 December 1995 his debut in the first team, in a league match against CB Peñas Huesca. Already in his first season succeeded Garbajosa winning the European Cup Winners' Cup, in 1998/99 followed the success of the Spanish Cup. Garbajosa participated with the Spanish national basketball team at the Summer Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004. He also won the 2001 bronze and 2003 silver at the European Championships.

He reached his greatest success with the title at the 2006 World Cup in Japan. In the final Garbajosa scored 20 points and 10 rebounds and was thus instrumental in the 70:47 win against Greece. In addition, he was elected to the national team of the best players of the tournament.

For the 2007 European Championship on home soil Garbajosa threatened by the drawn in March of the year of injury to fail.
