José Calderón (basketball)
José Manuel Calderón Borrallo ( born September 28, 1981 in Villanueva de la Serena ) is a Spanish professional basketball player who is active for the Dallas Mavericks currently in the North American professional league NBA. Calderón is 1.91 m tall, weighs approximately 95 kg and plays on the position of the point guards.
Career
Association
Calderón began his career in his hometown in the youth of Doncel La Serena. During his junior time he transferred to the offspring of the traditional clubs Saski Baskonia. The association of Vitoria- Gasteiz, who took his time under the name TAU Ceramica, Calderón gave for the season 1998/99 on the Provincial Council of Alava Zweitdivisionär. The following season, the young point guard changed within the league, also on loan to CB Lucentum Alicante, with which he succeeded Earned promotion to the ACB league. On 15 October 2000, the 19 -year-old Calderón made his debut in the first division and finished the season as a regular player with 8.6 points and 1.4 assists per game. In August 2005, Calderón joined as a free agent with the Toronto Raptors in the NBA. In the 2007/2008 season Calderon had the highest rate of assists per loss of possession of the league. During the following season he put together with 3 hits from the season 2007 / 08, a new record of 87 free throws turned into series on, which means the second longest such series NBA history. Throughout the season he reached a free throw rate of 98.1 % (151 of 154 recovered), setting a new NBA record.
On November 13, 2012 Calderón scored the first triple -double of his career, after he had achieved against the Indiana Pacers 13 points and 10 assists and rebounds each. Only five days later, he scored 18 of his 22 assists team against the Orlando Magic. This 81.8 % - mark means a new franchise record for Raptors, the previous record held since December 27, 1996 Damon Stoudamire with 8 of 10 assists (80 %) against the Washington Bullets.
On January 30, 2013 Calderon was transferred to the Detroit Pistons. In return, among other things, Rudy Gay switched to the Toronto Raptors and Tayshaun Prince to the Memphis Grizzlies. On July 5, 2013 Calderón joined as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks, where he signed a four year contract.
National
Calderón has already played as a junior for his country and was part of the golden generation, which celebrated numerous junior successes in the late 1990s. Beside him, players like Pau Gasol, Juan Carlos Navarro, Raül López, Felipe Reyes, Berni Rodríguez and Carlos Cabezas are to call from that vintage. Celebrated its first success Calderón at the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Tournament in 1998, where he won the title with the U-18. In the same year he won with Spain and the gold medal at the U-18 European Championship. In summer 2000 he won the U -20 bronze medal at the European Championships.
His debut in the senior team, he celebrated on 20 August 2002 in a friendly against Croatia. In the same year he was part of the banns of the Spaniards for the Basketball World Championship 2002. The first success came at the 2003 European Championships, where Calderón with Spain won the silver medal. Three years later, he won with the national team the gold medal at the World Championships. Other achievements are the European title in 2011 and the silver medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and at the European Championships in 2007.
