Joseph in Islam

Yūsuf Arabic يوسف, also Yousef, Yousuf, Youssef, Yusef, Yossef or Yosef, is a prophet in the Qur'an, the holy scripture of Islam. The figure corresponds to the patriarch Joseph in the Jewish Tanakh and the Christian Bible and the Arabic version of the name. The main part of the Qur'anic Yusuf narrative has strong similarities with the biblical text.

The 12th Sura

The 12th Sura, which contains 111 verses, Yusuf's name carries. After basmala and three introductory verses the story with Jacob's warning begins at his son, his dream of the sun, moon and stars his brothers not to tell, because he could so arouse their jealousy. Yūsuf then becomes the victim of the hatred of his brothers, and they use the first available opportunity to throw him into a well. Yūsuf was saved from their accusations, because God was with him. His shirt was torn from behind the proof that the woman had not been protected from the snares of Yūsuf, as they pretended, but grabbed him and tried to keep it as he fled from her. When Potiphar's wife invited Egyptian women at a banquet, she handed each a (fruit ) diameter, together with the refreshments. Then ordered to come out Yūsuf, and " when they saw him, they loved it ( like), and they cut themselves ( with astonishment with the knife ) in his hand and said, God forbid! That's not human. This is nothing (other) than a noble angel. ' " ( Paret )

After Yūsuf had interpreted the dreams of the king, the woman came to Pharaoh and admitted that Yūsuf is a man of truth. This episode is attributed to the influence of a Syrian legend, according to which Yūsuf no desire for revenge against the Potiphar's wife and her husband entertained, which had thrown him into prison. Verse 67 describes how the brothers of Yusuf before they went to Egypt for the second time, her father received the advice, not all by one gate into the city to go inside. This detail is also reported by a aggadic part of the Jewish Midrash ( Bereishit Rabba 91, 2).
