Kalenborn, Ahrweiler

Kalenborn, official spelling to 6 December 1935: Calenborn, is a municipality in the district of Ahrweiler, in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality since 1974 Altenahr.

Geography

Kalenborn located in Ahrgebirge. Near the headwaters of the longest stream in Europe, the Swist is.

To the east of Kalenborn passes extending in the north -south state road 257 and connects the village to the south and Altenahr Gelsdorf in the north. The national road 78 passes through Kalenborn and runs from the B 257 in North West direction after the Rhine river.

History

Until 1794, the city with its district formed a rich direct rule, which awarded the Imperial fief. 1737 Kalenborn was acquired by the Earl of Hillesheim that it inherited in 1785 at the Imperial Count von Spee, who ruled until the end of the feudal period there.

The local council in Kalenborn consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
