Karl Friedrich von Klöden

Karl Friedrich von Klöden (also Kloeden ) ( born May 21, 1786 in Berlin, † January 9, 1856 ) was a German educator, historian and geographer.

Biography

Karl Friedrich Klöden, the son of a Prussian Officer Hans Gottfried von Klöden (1706-1781? ), Who lost the title of nobility in the school application by the father spent, along with a sister of his childhood (1796-1800) in Mirosławiec. In the village school he learned writing, simple arithmetic, and the Bible by heart. He gained self-taught knowledge in geography, geometry, Latin, French and music. After an apprenticeship as a gilder with an uncle in Berlin, he earned his living as a private music teacher, engraver for Schroppsche publishing house and a teacher at the Plamannsche educational institution in Berlin. Alongside Klöden studied philosophy, theology, mineralogy and higher mathematics at the University of Berlin. In 1817 he took over the post of Director and chief instructor at the newly built Potsdamer teacher seminar. From there overtook him the Prussian Ministry of Education was founded in 1824 as head of the first urban commercial school. Until 1855, he held this position, which is why the institution was known as " Kloedensche trade school ". In addition, he led the first Köllnische grammar school, which was established against the purely humanistic education towards 1824.

Klöden even researched his life to the geography in Europe, collected and certain minerals. The focus of his research was on the medieval history of Berlin and Brandenburg.

Klöden was married and had three children. He was also called Royal York for Friendship Full member of the Geographical Society, the Society for History of Berlin and Brandenburg Freemasons, and at times Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Prussia. He was buried in the municipal cemetery Luis in Berlin- Kreuzberg. The grave no longer exists, in contrast to the grave of his son Gustav Adolf von Klöden.

Honor

For his contributions to the development of education, he was awarded the Knight of the Red Eagle 4th Class during his lifetime. In Kreuzberg the Kloedenstraße is named after him since 1891. Attached to the house (former Niederwallstraße 12), where he lived from 1824 to 1855, is commemorated by a plaque on copper Klöden.
