Karl Godulla

Karl Godulla ( pl. Karol Godula ) ( born November 8, 1781 Makoszowy (today district of Zabrze ), Upper Silesia, † July 6, 1848 in Breslau) was a German industrialist. The Prussian king zinc, as he was also called, was one of the pioneers in the development of Upper Silesia on the German mining and industrial center.

Life and work

Godulla grew up as the son of a gamekeeper up in modest circumstances and went into the service of Count Carl Franz Ballestrem who promoted the intelligent, ambitious and enterprising young man. 1807 Godulla was appointed administrator of the goods and operations of the Count, 1818, he rose to his agent. With 28 Freikuxen the Karlshütte in Ruda, who received Godulla by the Earl of Ballestrem gratitude, began his entrepreneurial career. He soon had its own coal mines, Galmeibergwerke and cabins.
