Khiri Rat Nikhom District

Amphoe Khiri Council Nikhom ( Thai อำเภอ คีรีรัฐนิคม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the west of the province of Surat Thani. The Surat Thani Province is located in the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

The western part of the district lies in the Phuket mountain range, on which the boundary between the provinces of Surat Thani and Ranong runs, while the eastern part consists mostly of flat land. The major rivers of the district are the Phum Duang and Khlong Yan.

The neighboring Amphoe and territories are (from north clockwise): Vibhavadi, Phunphin, Khian Sa, Ban Ta Khun Phanom and. All are located in the province of Surat Thani.

History

The city Khiri Council Nikhom was first mentioned in the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV ), when she was still a minor Mueang under Takua Pa - then one of the historic city-states ( Mueang ) with historical roots date back to the Srivijaya Empire - and part of the Kingdom of Nakhon Si Thammarat was. By Thesaphiban - administrative reform of 1890 it became a district in the province of Chaya, today Surat Thai.

In 1917 the district was renamed Tha Khanon ( ท่า ขนอน ), as the headquarters of the administration was in this area. On April 12, 1961, he was awarded the historic name.

Traffic

Khiri Council Nikhom is the endpoint of a branch of the south line of the State Railway of Thailand. This turn should lead from the station in Phunphin to Phuket originally, the further extension but was halted in 1956 for lack of funds.

Management

The Amphoe Khiri Council Nikhom is divided into eight subdistricts ( tambon), which in turn have together 84 municipalities ( Muban ).

Tha Khanon is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district, it is located in Tambon Tha Khanon.

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

Note that the missing numbers 4 and 5 belong to the Tambon from which the Amphoe Vibhavadi was formed.
