Korday

Qordai ( Қордай Kazakh, Russian Кордай / Kordai ) is a settlement in the area Zhambyl (Kazakhstan ) with 27 443 inhabitants ( 2009).

Geography

Qordai located on the Kazakh - Kyrgyz border, which is formed here by about 40 meters wide river Tschüi. The place is about 630 height on the right flank of this section on more than 30 km wide valley of training. This is located about 20 kilometers south-west of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek Qordai. Northeast of town, the here until almost 1500 meters high mountains of the training Ili Mountains, which reach further east 2500 meters height and represent the northwestern foothills of the Alatau Transili raise.

The town is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Established was the place about the year 1905 as the Russian village Georgijewka ( Георгиевка ). After 1992 he was given its present, Kazakh name.

Economy and infrastructure

In Qordai crosses the highway M39 which connects the Kazakh capital Almaty with the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek, the border. The M39 is in Qordai crossed by the A359, which runs from NB along the Kazakh- Kyrgyz border up over the Kyrgyz city Tokmok.
