Kubova Huť

Kubova Huť ( German Kubohütten ) is a municipality with a population of 96 (3 July 2006) in the Czech Republic. It is located 8 km south of Vimperk and 16 km east of the Bavarian border with Finsterau in 960 m asl on the railway line Strakonice Volary in Šumava.

History

In 1728 the Bohemian glass maker Johann Podschneider built his glass factory on the site of the present town. 1899 was the place with the establishment of the local train from Winterberg to Wallern a railway connection. Until the mid-20th century Kubohütten was a district of Upper Vltava. 1945/46, the German inhabitants were expelled from their homes and confiscated without compensation.

Attractions

East of the village in the middle of the Bohemian Forest is the 1,362 m high Boubin with protected forest. To the west of the valley, the 1,146 m high Obrovec rises. At the north neighborhood of Frankfurt Svetla Hora ( 1,123 m) is reminiscent of Wolfenstein in mind that at this point the last wolf in the Bohemian Forest was killed on December 2, 1874.
