L'ÃŽle-Saint-Denis

L'Île -Saint -Denis is with 7037 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) one of the smallest communities in the French department of Seine- Saint- Denis, Ile- de -France region. The community built in the late 19th century from the merger of the following four communities: l' Ile Saint -Denis, Île du Chatelier, l' Ile des Vannes and l' Île du Javeau. The core community is situated on the Seine Ile Saint- Denis. Only six other municipalities in France to share this special position to completely lie on a river island.

A major problem of the community is the unharmonisierte urbanization. To solve the resulting traffic problems, the extension of the Paris tram line 1 is planned to the center of L'Île -Saint- Denis.
