La Flèche Wallonne

La Flèche Wallonne ( in German: Walloon Arrow ) is an annually since 1936 (except 1940) material discharged in the Walloon region of Belgium cycling race, which is organized by the Société du Tour de France. The classic one-day race was for three years to the newly introduced in 2005 UCI ProTour, a series of the most important bike race of the year. Since 2011, the race is part of the follow-up series UCI World Tour.

The Walloon Arrow is one of the major spring classics of cycling, however, is always in the shadow of the even more prestigious race Liège -Bastogne -Liège, which is always discharged four days later. Both races are collectively referred to traditionally as the "weekend ardennais ". In recent times also previously held Amstel Gold Race is counted for " Ardennes Week ".

Route

In the first three years, demanding, leading through the hilly country of the Belgian Ardennes race between Tournai and Liège took place and was up to 300 km long. Before 1986 Alternate routes have been selected, which were never more than 250 km. According to the rules of the UCI race must not be longer than 200 km since the mid- 1990s. For several years, Charleroi is the starting point of the Belgian classic.

The most important characteristic of the section profile is the goal in Huy. The goal is at the end of the so-called Wall of Huy (French: Mur de Huy ), a severe increase of approximately 1.3 km in length. Since 1993 Fleche Wallonne one will be held for women, who most recently led more than 98 km. The race counted to 2004 cycling World Cup of women.

Palmarčs

Until the 1970s, the race was uniquely determined by the Belgians. Since then, the list of winners has internationalized. With three victories, the Belgians Marcel Kint and Eddy Merckx and the Italian Moreno Argentin and Davide Rebellin were the most successful driver in the " arrow".

Women

Since 1998, the Classic is also performed for women. So far, the Dutch Marianne Vos Briton Nicole Cooke, the Italian Fabiana Luperini could the race five times, winning the race three times each for itself.
