La Franja

The term Franja de Aragón ( Spanish ) or Franja de Ponent ( Catalan), also Franja d' Arago, Franja de Llevant or Franja Oriental, refers to the adjacent Catalonia, predominantly Catalan-speaking area in the eastern part of the autonomous community of Aragon in Spain.

From nationalist Catalan perspective, the Franja de Ponent is one of the Països Catalans, the Catalan ( speaking) countries.

Location

Origin of name

The term Franja de Aragón (, strip of Aragon ') is in use since 1985, after the name Marques de Ponent and since the 1970s the term Franja de Ponent had been used since 1929.

Language status

In the 62 regarded as katalanischsprachig communities Catalan enjoys protection as a teaching and administrative language.
