Lambert I, Count of Louvain

I. Lambert with the beard / the Bearded († September 12, 1015 in Florennes ) was of the house of Reginare Count of Leuven since 994 He was a younger son of the Earl Reginar III. of Hainault.

Life

Lambert married around 985-990 the Karolin Gerin Gerberga (* probably 975, † 27 January after 1018), the eldest daughter of Duke Charles of Lower Lorraine, who had since 987 West Frankish pretender to the throne and imprisoned 991 of Hugh Capet, and until his death in Orléans was incarcerated.

From this marriage the Counts of Leuven derived their claim from the Duchy of Lower Lorraine, the Lamberts descendants were able to achieve with Godfrey I of Leuven from 1106 also.

Progeny

Lambert and Gerberga had at least four children:

  • Henry I the Old († 1038 after August 5 ), Count of Leuven and Brussels in 1015 until 1038.
  • Lambert II († Doornik, June 19, 1054 ), Count of Leuven and Brussels around 1041; ∞ Oda of Verdun ( † 23 October of unknown year after 1047), daughter of the Duke Gotzelo I.
  • Mathilde; ∞ Eustace I. Count of Boulogne ( † around 1049 )
  • Reginar ∞ probably a daughter of Count Baldwin IV of Flanders
