Lamoura

Lamoura is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lamoura lies on 1154 m above sea level. M., and thus one of the highest urban areas in the French Jura, about eight kilometers east of the town of Saint- Claude ( a straight line ). The former village street lines extending high Jura, in a depression on the northeastern edge of the Hautes- Combes, west of the Cret Pela.

The area of ​​22.28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The area is located exclusively on the plateau of the Hautes- Combes (on average to 1,150 m above sea level. M. ). The landscape is undulating and shows natural features such as ridges and troughs oriented southwest-northeast direction according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the area. History

The area around Lamoura was cleared in the 11th century by the monks of the monastery of Saint- Claude and reclaimed. For a long time the settlement was inhabited only during the summer months. The Forêt du Massacre east of the village got its name after the successful raid in 1535 by troops of the Duke of Savoy to around 600 Italian mercenaries, who were sent to reinforce the besieged by Savoy city of Geneva from the French king Francis I..

With the separation of Septmoncel Lamoura was collected in 1839 into an independent municipality.

Population

With 541 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lamoura one of the small towns in the Jura.
