Ponthoux

Ponthoux is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ponthoux is located on 590 m above sea level. M., about four kilometers west of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a ridge on the eastern side of the valley of Lison, on a slope of the ridge north of Avignon, in the valley of Bienne.

The area of ​​2.18 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The western boundary runs along the Lison, it flows in a deep erosion valley south to Bienne. From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward across a steep slope and the terrain terrace of Ponthoux up to the crest of the broad ridge of Avignon, which forms an anticline of the Jura Mountains in geological terms. On this ridge is 890 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Ponthoux. The area of Ponthoux is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

Neighboring communities of Ponthoux are Cuttura in the north, Avignon -lès -Saint -Claude in the east, Saint -Claude in the south and Lavans -lès -Saint -Claude and Saint- Lupicin in the West.

History

Since the Middle Ages Ponthoux belonged to the dominion of the Abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 88 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ponthoux one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 98 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid- 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Ponthoux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by the agriculture and forestry through the village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the community.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from the main road in the valley of Bienne. Another road connection with Cuttura.
