Molinges

Molinges is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Molinges is located on 360 m above sea level. M., 8 km west-southwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, in the valley of Bienne, slightly elevated on a terrace on the south side of the river in a valley widening, Nordostfuß on the ridge of the Roche de Joux.

The area of ​​2.57 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part is occupied by a 1 km wide valley widening of Bienne, which here flows from east to west through the flat valley floor. The flood plain is flanked by steep and partially traversed by bands of rock slopes on both sides. History

Since the 9th century Molinges belonged to the territory of the abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since the Middle Ages and until the end of the 19th century Molinges served as a major trading center. The defeated in the High Jura logs were transported in the port of Molinges in the Bienne and then floated down to Lyon. At the beginning of the industrialization of the place was the establishment of a Marmorschleiferei in 1827, was edited in 1975 to marble and limestone from the area. Population

With 665 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Molinges one of the small towns in the Jura.
