Laura Boldrini

Laura Boldrini ( born April 28, 1961 in Macerata) is an Italian journalist and politician.

Life

Boldrini studied law at the University La Sapienza in Rome and then worked as a journalist for the public- service broadcaster RAI in Italy. Since 1989, she began working at the United Nations ( UN), first with the Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO), from 1993 to 1998 at the World Food Programme ( WFP) and from 1998 to 2012 when Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR ). In 2004, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

In the 2013 parliamentary elections for the 17th legislative period Boldrini moved as a candidate of the Party Left Ecology Freedom in the Italian Chamber of Deputies a. On March 16, 2013, it was elected President of the Chamber of Deputies.
