Laval University

The University of Laval (French Université Laval, ULAVAL ) is one of the oldest universities in the Americas, it is one of the largest and best research universities in Canada and is located in the city of Québec.

History

This year the university is given as 1663, it was first performed by the Canadian- French clergy. Today it is a private university, which is mostly financed by the Ministry of Education of Quebec. At the same time it is the oldest French-language institution of higher education in America and the sixth oldest university in Canada.

Foundation

The first bishop of Quebec Monsignor François de Montmorency -Laval, who only called himself " de Laval ", established with the approval of Louis XIV in "New France " the seminary of Quebec, with royal consent was this seminar 1852 in Laval University renamed. Opened in 1878, the University of Laval an office in Montreal, which the independent University of Montréal in 1919. The Laval University quickly developed over the years to the source of all French-speaking training on the North American continent.

Today's university management

In 1991, a bicameral body for management of the University was used. It is composed of the Academic Council and a Management Group. The rector is elected every five years and may be re-elected only once.

The campus

The campus covers 1.2 square kilometers on which there are 30 buildings, and gazebos, these were associated with a 10 -kilometer-long pedestrian tunnel system. The tunneling of the University primarily serves the mobility of university students during the harsh winter in Québec. A similar, yet Wider sweeping design can be found in Montreal.

The four halls of residence rooms have a capacity for 2,300 students, there's also a great social and economic complex, the Alphonse-Desjardins/Maurice-Pollack building. Research and international cooperation
