Le Puy (Doubs)

Le Puy is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Le Puy is located at 327 m, 10 km west of Baume- les -Dames and about 19 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, in a basin between the forest heights of Mont Bichoux in the North and the Bois du Poirier in the south.

The area of ​​3.42 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a tank, which is an average 320 m. It consisted mainly of arable and meadow land. To the east, the municipality's area covers a narrow strip in the forest area of ​​the Bois des nuées. Here is 375 m reached the highest elevation of Le Puy. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Le Puy are Villers- Grélot in the North, Val -de- Roulans in the east, L' Écouvotte, Saint- Hilaire and Vennans in the south and Pouligney - Lusans in the West.

History

The place name comes from the French word Puits (wells ). Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Attractions

In a forest, east of the village is the chapel of Notre -Dame de la Délivrance, which was built in 1854.

Population

With 93 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Le Puy is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 55 and 80 persons, until the mid- 1970s, there was a decrease. In recent years there has been a significant increase in population.

Economy and infrastructure

Le Puy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Pouligney to Villers - Grélot. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 8 km. Further road links exist with Lusans, L' Écouvotte and Saint- Hilaire.
