Vennans

Vennans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vennans Situated 317 meters above sea level, nine kilometers west of Baume- les -Dames and about 19 kilometers northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, on the southern edge of a large basin at the foot of the forest height of the Bois du Poirier.

The area of ​​1.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by a pool, which is on average 320 meters. It is partly passed with arable and meadow land, partly by forest. To the south, the municipality's area extends over a relatively steep slope on the broad ridge of the Bois du Poirier which separates the basin of the Doubs Valley. On this forest height, the highest elevation of Vennans is achieved with 400 meters. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of Vennans are Le Puy and Saint -Hilaire in the north, the south and Roulans Pouligney - Lusans in the West.

History

Vennans developed at a Priory of the Knights Templar. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Population

With 199 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vennans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 15 and 33 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1980s. Since then, the population has increased more than tenfold.

Economy and infrastructure

Vennans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
