Legio II Armeniaca

The Legio II armeniaca ( " Second Armenian Legion ") was a legion of late ancient Roman army, which was ripensisausgehoben with her sister Legion I armeniaca as legio and was stationed in the province of Armenia. There, the Legion was involved in the expansion of the camp Satala.

360 defended the armeniaca II, II Legio Legio II Flavia Parthica and that was possibly identical with the Legio II Flavia Virtutis, the city unsuccessfully Bezabde (now Cizre ) on the Tigris against the Persians. When the breach in the wall of the heavily fortified city could not be defended, the defenders were killed in street fighting or captured .. Yet it seems the Legion to have survived, because in the early 5th century, it is in the Notitia Dignitatum as legio pseudocomitatensis under the command of the magister militum per orientem called. The Pseudocomitatenses were in higher esteem than the border guards.
