Lena Kolarska-Bobińska

Lena Kolarska- Bobińska ( born December 3, 1947 in Prague) is a Polish sociologist and politician.

Biography

Kolarska- Bobińska studied at Warsaw University and is a Fellow at Stanford University and the School of Business Carnegie Mellon University. From 1991 to 1997 she was director of the polling institute CBOS, since 1997 she has been Director of Instytut Spraw Publicznych in Warsaw.

Kolarska- Bobińska is the author of about 150 publications and has lectured at universities in Poland and abroad. She commented political and social developments for Polish and international media, in the French journal Les Echos to appear regularly her columns.

She was from 1992 to 1995 Member of the Economic Council of President Lech Wałęsa, 1998-2001 Adviser to the Polish chief negotiator in the accession negotiations with the EU and belonged from 2001 to 2005 for senior staff of President Aleksander Kwasniewski. In the European elections 2009, she was in her district of Lublin for the Platforma Obywatelska - Civic Platform (PO ) elected to the European Parliament. Lena Kolarska- Bobińska support a federal Europe and has signed the Manifesto of the Spinelli Group.

On 2 December 2013, it resigned her seat in the European Parliament, a day later they appeared in place of Barbara Kudrycka up her new post as a science and higher education minister in the Cabinet Tusk II.
