Leon Valley is a city in Bexar County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on Highway 16 in south-central Texas, 17 northwest of San Antonio in the north- west of the county and has a total area of 8.8 km ² without significant water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 9,239 people in 3,576 households and 2,521 families. The population density was 1046.1 people per km ². The racial the population was composed of 78.07 % White, 2.77 % African American, 0.67 % Native American, 1.95 % Asian, 0.15 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 13.19% from other ethnic groups. Approximately 3.19% were of mixed descent, and 44.65 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 3,576 households, 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.0 % were married couples living together. 11.0% were single mothers and 29.5 % were non-families. 24.8 % of all households were single-person households and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size amounted to 3.07.

23.4% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 28.1% 25-44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.5 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 90.3 males.

The median income for a household was $ 49,079, and the median income for a family $ 56,543. Males have a median income of $ 32,917 versus $ 28,700 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,743. 8.1% of the population and 4.8 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 12.6 % have children under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those 65 or older.
