Les Jackson (ice hockey)

Les Jackson ( born December 21, 1952 in Manning, Alberta ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and currently co-general manager of the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League.

Career as a player

Les Jackson was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Amateur Draft 1972 when a total of 64 players from the Boston Bruins. Although Jackson has starred in numerous North American professional leagues, but he never reached the NHL as a player. His career as a hockey player began Jackson in the Western Hockey League in which he ran aground in the game year 1970/71 for the Estevan Bruins and 1971 /72 the New Westminster Bruins. In his first season in professional hockey, the Canadian stood in the International Hockey League for the Dayton Gems in 64 games on the ice. He scored 27 points scorer, including nine goals. In the season of 1973/74 Jackson stood at the Roanoke Valley Rebels of the Southern Hockey League contract. Further stations for Jackson were the Nelson Maple Leafs of the Western International Hockey League, the Cape Codders from the North American Hockey League, the Kalamazoo Wings of the International Hockey League, and finally the Butte Copper Kings, Tucson Icemen and Billings Blazers from the Southwest Hockey League.

Career as a coach and manager

After the 1976/77 season, Jackson finished his career as a player and was before the 1979/80 season head coach of the Great Falls Americans of the Western Hockey League until it was dissolved on December 26, 1979. The next two years he coached the Brandon Wheat Kings, who also played in the WHL. For two more years the Canadian was general manager of the Kings. Prior to the 1985/86 season he was an assistant coach with the Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League, where he worked in various positions until 1999, although the franchise was moved in summer 1993 to the Texas Dallas and had renamed the Dallas Stars. On September 1, 1999, the Jackson Atlanta Thrashers joined as assistant general manager. On 6 July 2000 Jackson returned to the stars and was on November 13, 2007 Interim Co - General Manager along with Brett Hull. On 22 May 2008, the club's management decided Hull and Jackson as a permanent solution in place to leave and both received a three- year contract as co- general manager.
