List of judges of the European Court of Human Rights

This list gives an overview of all the judges, who were working for human rights so far at the European Court. Under Article 20 of the ECHR, any State which has signed the European Convention on Human Rights may, appoint a judge in the ECHR. Total so far 169 judges from 47 countries have been talking right at the ECtHR, among them were 33 women.

Judge

1 Canadian, proposed by Liechtenstein. 2 Swiss, proposed by Liechtenstein. 3 The term of office ended on 31 October 2004. Since the proposed list of the Maltese government has been repeatedly rejected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council, he remained under Article 23, paragraph 3, sentence 1 of the Convention beyond that date in office. 4 Italians, proposed by San Marino. 5 Elected as judge for Serbia - Montenegro. After the dissolution of the state, he took over the position of the Serbian judge at the ECtHR. 6 Elected as a judge for the CSSR. Due to the dissolution of the state ended his term in office, first on 1 January 1993. However, he was re-elected as a judge for Slovakia. 7 Since no successor has been chosen, the judge is despite the end of his nine -year tenure still in office (Article 23, paragraph 3, sentence 1 of the Convention ). 8 The term of office already expired on 25 September 1970. Since no successor of Cyprus was proposed, he remained under article 40, paragraph 6 of the ECHR in office.
