Liutpert

Liutpert († 703) was King of the Lombards 700-701.

Life

Liutpert was the son of the Lombard Cunincpert and his Anglo-Saxon wife Hermelinda.

Liutpert was at the death of his father in 700 still a minor, so that Ansprand, the father of Liutprand, for it led the regency. After eight months, Raginpert rose, the dux ( duke ) of Turin, who was the nephew Cunincperts also a Agilolfinger. In the battle of Novariae (Novara) he could prevail against 701 Ansprand and dux Rotharit of Bergamo, and usurp the throne. He died in the same year, after which his son succeeded him as king Aripert II.

In the battle of Ticinum (Pavia ) Aripert II defeated the army of King Liutperts under Ansprand, Ato, Tatzo, Rotharit and Farao and took Liutpert caught. He had assassinated Liutpert as a potential rival throne in the year 703.
