Liv Grete Poirée (born 7 July 1974 in Bergen; native Liv Grete Skjelbreid ) is a former Norwegian biathlete.

Career

First major successes Liv Grete Poirée, starting under her birth name Skjelbreid, celebrate the end of the 1990s with Norwegian squadrons and teams: At the World Championships in 1997 and 1998, she won a gold and two silver medals. In the years 2000 and 2001 Liv Grete Poirée reach her ​​first individual successes. In Oslo it was two-time world champion in sprint and mass start. A year later she won in Pokljuka in each individual event medals, including a gold medal in the pursuit. In the seasons 2000/ 01 and 2001/ 02 they also won twice second place in the overall World Cup.

At the 2004 World Championships in Oberhof succeeded Liv Grete Poirée the first athlete ever to win four gold medals at a World Cup. Only in the individual race in which she finished in 8th place, there was the Russian Olga Pyljowa another winner. Together with her husband Raphael presented the Norwegian also set a new record: The couple won seven out of ten world titles, were both on the same day world champion in the mass start. With these four world titles Liv Grete Poirée is a total of eight times world champion. In the 2003 / 04 season, they also won the Biathlon World Cup, and three of four World Cup disciplines.

As her husband, it was the Norwegian, however, denied to win Olympic gold. With two silver medals in 2002 in Salt Lake City as well as a bronze medal in Nagano in 1998 it reached a total of three Olympic medals.

After a little satisfactory development season Liv Grete Poirée was on 20 March 2006 that it would withdraw from the active sport of biathlon, in order to have more time for their daughter. With the World Cup final of 2005/2006 season at Holmenkollen in Oslo she denied her last competitions.

Poirée works as Sportkommentarorin for biathlon for Norwegian television NRK. Poirée is athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play.

Liv Grete Poirée was married from 2000 to 2013 with the former French biathlete Raphael Poirée. Both continue to live together in Fusa (Norway). The couple has three daughters. Her sister Ann- Elen Skjelbreid and her cousin Liv - Kjersti Eikeland were biathletes. Egil Gjelland is her brother.
