Livny (pig)

The Liwnyer pig (Russian Ливенская transcribed Liwenskaja ) is a multi-purpose breed of pig from Russia.

Breeding history

The breed was developed near the town of Livny in the Oryol Oblast in Russia by the breeds Large White, Berkshire pig and Poland China were crossed native hanging ears sows with boars. Was in charge N. N. Korowezkaja. In 1949 the breed was recognized as a multi- purpose breed.

There are 18 sire lines and 46 sows families.

Occurrence

Main breeding areas are the oblasts of Orel, Lipetsk and Voronezh in Russia. In 1980, the number of pure-bred pigs Liwnyer at 59,600 animals.
